6. Mount Washington From Conway Valley, oil on canvas landscape painting, “View From Sunset Hill, North Conway,” 26” x 40”, appears to be in the original carved & gilded frame. Although this view was made famous by John Kensett, this painting is probably not by him, but does appear to be by someone of his stature. Provenance: A Delaware collection.

He was a Worcester, MA newspaper publisher, abolitionist & later appointed by Abraham Lincoln in 1861 as US Postmaster & Commissioner on Indian Affairs, (he did the first Native American census in MA), unknown artist, oil on canvas, lined, original veneered frame, 30” by 25”. Provenance: A NH collection, purchased directly from a descendent of the Earle family.

102. James Earle Fraser, 1876-1953, Cornish, NH, this previously unknown bas relief portrait, “Priscilla 1920,” as noted on front, is marked on the bottom, “Gorham Co. Founders (OMAL). J.E. Fraser worked with Augustus Saint Gaudens at Cornish, an earlier smaller relief of Priscilla is listed in, Fraser’s Archives at Syracuse University, and she probably was a daughter of one of his patrons, 15” by 10 1/2” with the original wooden backing to hang or stand-up, surface losses.
