Lot 246: A lovely Tabwa mask

A fine and graceful mask in the form of an antelope with cowries inset into the eyes. The surface shows handling and patina and it was likely this was a ritual mask and not meant to be worn. A fine and rare example, on a custom base.

Provenance:
Field collected by Dean Ripa in the 1980's while living among the Tabwa.
