Lot 256: Early Whales Tooth Scrimshaw

Whales Tooth Scrimshaw, etched design of a sailor at look out in the rigging (there she blows position), on one side, the other side with a coat of arms with Pegasus at the top, coat of arms in the center, on one side eagle atop an open book with caduceus (symbol of commerce) on the other an eagle above a feather above a lobster, zigzag decoration around top, 6 5/8" long, normal age cracks, an old imperfection on tip and normal age jagged edges, 18/19th Century.
