Lot 137: A superb Dogon hunter mask

Dogon, Mali; H: 18 1/2"

The cubistic mask with vertical facial plane with rounded forehead swelling from the upper portion, the nose carved as a downward thrusting device free of the face and joining with the aggressive mouth jutting from the bottom. The surface with dry encrusted patina, a beard to the chin. Excellent example of a rare type and style. On a custom base.
