18thC American Revolutionary Powder Horn with History and Provenance, In very good old surface, dated and signed "LH (Landon Hood) 1775, June 28", decorated around the outside with houses, cannons, buildings, trees, fish and numerous designs, 13 1/4" long at the end, there is an insert paper star design with writing in pen "Landon Hood his horn Liberty or Death 1775 AD" at the end cap, minor edge chips, Hood was from Taunton, Mass., born C1750 and died 1839, served as a private in the Mass. militia from 1775-1780. Purchased 1/15/1995 with original receipt by Victor C Hood (his estate is our consignor) from Guthman Americana of Westport, CT (a copy attached along with a letter regarding this transaction from the Old Colony Historical Society, Taunton, Mass. Comes with old leather carry strap and 20thC display box.
