2009 Sale.
Stained Glass believed to be made by
Donald MacDonald. MacDonald was born in 1841 in Glasgow, trained in
London during the 1860’s and immigrated to the US to join the William McPherson
& Co Studios in Boston which he later took over and changed into his name.
During the 1870’s he was a leading exponent of the British Design Reform
Movement. MacDonald's work was well known throughout New England. The
McPherson/MacDonald studio had done most of the windows for Harvard's Memorial
Chapel "The William Ellery Channing Memorial Window" in the Newton, MA, and the
Presbyterian Church. The window in the National Arts Club (the former Samuel J.
Tilden Mansion at 15 Gramercy Park South) may be seen in James L. Sturm's
STAINED GLASS FROM MEDIEVAL TIMES TO THE PRESENT: Treasures to Be Seen in New
York. Glass has been crated and all 11 pieces are shown photographed
individually and then combined together for a sense of what the window would
like installed. Please note: many of the painted details in the glass
cannot be seen in the photos. In excellent condition. Estimate
