61. Whaling Log
Of MS Corvo & Enterprise,
1840-41; the
handwritten daily record starting in Chile on Oct. 1840 and ending
in the Falkland Islands, May 17, 1841, recorded by, “J. Pendleton,”
Master & “F. (Green?), Master, some pages torn out, but in it’s
original sail cloth binding, also with a 20th c., protective paper
board folder. Each time a whale was killed, it was noted by a whale
drawing in the margin, some staining. Provenance: A NH & Delaware
collection.

Scrimshaw Decorated Whale Teeth,
one is
decorated with a wreath surrounding George Washington with an eagle
flying over head holding a branch. The other with a wreath
surrounding Benjamin Franklin with an eagle flying over head holding
a lightning bolt; 5 1/2” T each, attached to a later period oval
wooden base, American, 19th c. Provenance: A NH & Delaware
collection.

woman standing holding a dagger, the other a woman dressed as an

W.J. Higgins, marine painter to His Majesty, engraved by Rosenberg,
captured April 30, 1812 by HM ships, Hermese and Belle Poule after a
3 day chase, 17 1/8” by 10 3/4” hand colored, framed under glass. B
- “Paul and Virginia” colored print of ship wrecked survivors
mourning the death of Virginia, matted & framed under glass, 12 1/2”
by 16”, trimmed. Provenance: A NH & Delaware collection, original
receipt on reverse from Godolphin Gallery, Dublin for “A.”
