Lot 475: Exceptional Turkish Yataghan

Exceptional Turkish Yataghan, the short-sword with characteristic brass flaring pommel, the grip and pommel with inset carnelian, the blade with some oxidation with remains of a gilded inscription to one side (illegible) and a seal of Suleiman to the other. The Scabbard with elaborate basket-woven brass locket with attached florets, the body with foliate patterns terminating in the chape in the form of a fish, 47 1/2" long sword, could use a good cleaning, but a superb example. Probably late 18th-early 19th century.
