Lot 396: 19th Century Cocker Glasgow Half Stock, Percussion Cap, Back Action Rifle

Cocker Glasgow Half Stock, Percussion Cap, Back Action Lock Rifle, octagonal barrel measures 31 1/8" long and is not rifled, overall length of rifle is 49 1/2" long. Barrel is impressed "Cocker Glasg" just forward of the breach. The lock plate cover is delicately engraved in the "blackleaf" pattern as is the hammer, back strap, trigger guard and the butt plate. A nice touch is the engraving on the thumb-catch of the hammer which gives one the impression of a fish. The German silver patch box cover is also nicely engraved. Flat checkered straight grip. No varnish remains on the foregrip while a newer varnish remains on the buttstock. The front of the hammer has some losses. 19th Century. See photos for better condition study.
